Costumes Not To Wear

I wish I could say I was surprised to read that a bunch of white kids down in good ole Bush Country er Texas thought it was ok to dress like Maids, Yard Workers and Pregnant Latinas at "Fiesta Day" during their School Spirit Week. I also wish I could feel shock that no one in the school administration saw this as problematic. But I'm not.

infact , there is a local website in my area(dallas/ft.worth), called. http://www.getamexican.com/

It is ran by 2 local radio talkshow hosts, one is irish , the other is italian/irish.
and whats sad is , they dont realize that irish and italians in the 1920's & 30's
were viewed the same way they view mexicans today, in fact the term WOP , actually means "with out papers". because in the 20's italians were coming here illegaly, and people accused them of taking all the jobs , its funny how history repeats itself. anyway I thought the site was racist , but they talk about it on their radio show all the time.

Here's another excellent discussion of good and bad costumes.
